Our Mission

The Environmental Group (TEG) was formed in 1990 and has been active in the three counties of Coal Creek Canyon ever since.

Our mission is to protect and improve the environment; to promote open space and land conservation; to further and encourage better ecological education; and to provide current information to the community regarding the environment in which we live.

Our commitment is to encourage and support fellow members and their efforts and ideas regarding environmental issues and changes. We shall represent our organization with the integrity and fairness to all environmental concerns in and out of our community.

In keeping with our mission, TEG has had a number of accomplishments in the past few years:

  1. TEG is working with the Mountain Area Land Trust (MALT) to protect and preserve key areas of undeveloped land in and near the Canyon.
  2. TEG is the parent and charter organization for the Park and Recreation Vision Group (PRVG) as it evolved from TEG’s activities. In addition, TEG is a parent organization and supporting partner of Canyon Cares.
  3. TEG helped rally community opposition to the proposed water tank on publicly owned Open Space at the mouth of the canyon.
  4. TEG has organized several public presentations and Q & A sessions for the public in recent years. These include a conversation with Jeffco Commissioner Kathy Hartman, presentations by Columbia Sanitation, Environmental Investigations, Bart Stevens on the issues of well water and septic health, and a talk about the principals of Permaculture in October. In February of this year, TEG hosted a Recycle Roundtable discussion to generate interest and ideas about canyon recycling.
  5. TEG organizes Canyon Clean-Up and Slash Clean-Up weekends  twice every summer.

TEG's area of activity encompasses the USA including,  but is not limited to, the Coal Creek Canyon Fire Protection District. The Environmental Group is a 501C(3) non-profit organization.

Monthly meetings are open to the public and are held at the Coal Creek Canyon Community Center.
